Karachi, June 22, 2018 (PPI-OT): Provincial caretaker minister for labour and Human Resources Simon John Daniel has issued strict directives to ensure the safety and security of staff and patients at SESSI healthcare facilities throughout province particularly SESSI Landhi hospital adding that cancel agreement / contract of security company hired for maintaining safety environment at Landhi hospital if it failed to improve situation within a week.
Provincial minister issued these instructions on the complaint of doctors during an introductory meeting at SESSI Head office. Minister labour was of view that giving proper policy was beyond the mandate of caretaker setup; however, he would not tolerate any negligence in carrying out day to day affairs during his tenure. He said that SESSI need to make transparent and result oriented mechanism for the welfare of workers who were the back bone of our economy.
On the occasion, Medical Superintendents of SESSI Hospitals complained regarding shortage of specialist doctors. Doctors of Landhi hospital said that they were employees of social security institute; where as our own security has been compromised at Landhi due to surrounding environment.
Earlier, SESSI vice commissioner Shah Muhammad Shah in a briefing, informed that seventy six percent funds of Sindh Employees Social Security Institute were spent on the health facilities to workers and their dependents. He said that development work was underway on four new health facilities in province and added that ninety percent development work of four new health care facilities at site Karachi with estimated cost of Rs. 10 Million, Sukkur with Rs. 10.37 million Nawabshah Rs. 10.43 million and Daharki with estimated cost of Rs. 10.39 million have been completed.
He informed that sanctioned strength of medical staff was 1895 while 724 are vacant. “Recently, eighteen modern well equipped ambulances have been provided to SESSI hospitals and laboratories of KVSS and Landhi hospitals have been upgraded, ” he added.
