Islamabad, May 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): On the direction of Chairman CDA, Mr. Maroof Afzal, Environment Wing of Capital Development Authority (CDA) has kicked off its operation against illegal cutting, transit and sale of trees in the Capital City. Specially constituted teams of Environment Wing have confiscated illegally cut trees and the trucks have been detained in Environment Wing Headquarter F-9 for necessary legal action as per Forest Act 1927.
These special teams raided trucks number E-2542 and KPK – P 8229 containing woods of illegally cut trees. Similarly, a truck number PKT-731 trying to bring woods from Musa Khail to Chak Shahzad was also raided. The woods were confiscated. The driver was carrying fake documents which he himself acknowledged afterwards.
In another case, the special teams of Environment Wing imposed a fine amounting to rupees 80 thousand on a truck number E-9021 bringing olive wood from Angoori to Rawalpindi. Similarly, truck number RIL- 6672 carrying woods from Hazro to Gujrat without transit permit and seal from forest bearer was imposed fine worth Rs. 350,000/-
Chairman CDA, Mr. Maroof Afzal has directed the Environment Wing to take action as per law including confiscation and imposition of fine against illegal cutting and transit of trees. The Chairman has further directed the submission of weekly progress report to his office regarding action against illegal cutting and transit of trees from Islamabad. No, laxity or negligence would be tolerated in this regard, the Chairman stressed.
