Islamabad, July 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): Canadian High Commissioner, Greg Giokas called on Federal Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here Thursday.
The High Commissioner congratulated the people of Pakistan for showing commitment to democracy by coming out in large numbers. “This has made a difference and has helped in creating a favourable narrative for Pakistan”, the High Commissioner said.
The Finance Minister briefed the Canadian High Commissioner on the initiatives taken by his government for improvement of economy and tackling challenges like extremism, energy and economy. On energy, Mr. Ishaq Dar said that under directions of Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, circular debt of private sector has been settled which will result in their optimal utilization.
The Finance Minister said, “I have a firm faith that if transparency, hard work and good governance are upheld, we can turn around the economy”. Pakistan is facing challenges in revenue generation and Canadian help and technical cooperation for ways to explore increase in the revenue collection capability of Pakistan would be appreciated, he added.
The Canadian High Commissioner assured the Finance Minister that he will convey the request to the Canadian Deputy Minister for Revenue.
