Businessmen delegation meets Chairman Federal Board of Revenue

Karachi: Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s delegation lead by Siraj Kassam Teli, Chairman Businessmen Group and Former President KCCI along with Mian Abrar Ahmed, President-KCCI, Tahir Khaliq, Vice Chairman Businessmen Group, A.Q. Khalil, and Haroon Agar, had a meeting with Chairman FBR demanded to immediately rescind SRO 191(I)/2012 as this SRO was not implementable under any circumstances and as per commitment in the Business Persons Council by the Finance Minister it should have been postponed by one month but the FBR did not do so. Siraj Teli also demanded to resolve the issue of notices issued to tax payers regarding flying / fake invoices which has spread harassment in the Business and Industrial Community.

With regards to broaden the base of tax payers the Business Community was prepared to sit with FBR and find a solution, said Siraj Teli but this issue cannot be linked with SRO191 as an hanging sword as we believe it is the duty of FBR to register new tax payers by using data of their own or NADRA or even use data from mobile phone companies.

After a lot of discussion the Chairman FBR responding to the demands of Siraj Teli, agreed to suspend the condition of CNIC / NTN with regards to SRO191 and also extended the date of filing the GST return up to 25th April 2012. It was also agreed to constitute a Committee of 12 members comprising of 4 each from FPCCI, KCCI and LCCI to discuss and give proposals for broadening the tax net and documentation of the economy and it will have no links with SRO191. Siraj Teli nominated on behalf of KCCI the names of Zubair Motiwala, Haroon Farooki, A.Q. Khalil and the President KCCI, Mian Abrar Ahmad.

The Chairman FBR also agreed and instructed to stop all actions with regards to the notices issued to the tax payers against fake / flying invoices and a Committee was constituted to segregate those genuine businesses who have followed all legal formalities such as making payments by cheques etc. not to involve them and give relief to them in this matter.
