Islamabad, November 11, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Chakwal and Islamabad Chambers of Commerce and Industry have called upon the government to expedite work for the establishment of new Industrial Zone in District Chakwal in compliance with the directive of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. This demand was made during the visit of a delegation of Chakwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry to ICCI led by President Khurram Kamran.
Khurram Kamran said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a visit to Chakwal had directed for a new Industrial Zone at Islamabad-Lahore Motorway near Nila Dullah Interchange, but no further progress has been made by the concerned government departments so far, which was unfortunate. He said about 500 acre barren land in the said area was identified as the most suitable place for industrial zone as it was very cheap and provided easy access as well. He said the establishment of new industrial zone in Chakwal would attract new investment, promote industrialization and create jobs in the area. It was discussed that Islamabad, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, Attock and Jhelum Chambers of Commerce and Industry should join hands to launch a strong campaign for the establishment of said industrial zone.
Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that despite clear directives of the Prime Minister and a joint proposal for the project by Chakwal CCI and ICCI to the Ministry of Industries, making no tangible progress by the government departments was disappointing. He said Potohar region needed a new industrial zone for industrialization and investment and Chakwal offered the best place for the project. He said Pakistan has great potential to promote trade and exports with China, Afghanistan and Central Asian countries and new industrial zone in the region would help in realizing these objectives.
He said Chakri was being considered for new industrial estate, but due to security set up for CPEC in the area, there was not more space for new industrial estate Chakri and Chakwal was the suitable alternative option for the project. He said CPEC would initiate more trade and investment activities in the region and in this scenario, new industrial zone was of paramount importance. He assured that ICCI would soon approach Ministry of Industries for this important project and Chakwal CCI would be taken on board for this purpose.
Tahir Ayub Vice President ICCI, Khalid Javed, Tariq Sadiq, Mian Akram Farid, Zafar Bakhtawari, Zahid Maqbool and others also spoke at the occasion and stressed for new industrial zone in Chakwal. It was discussed that a union of Potohar Chambers should be formed to push for this project.
