Islamabad, April 13, 2013 (PPI-OT): Budget 2013-14 should be finalized based on the proposals of Business Bodies of the country. FPCCI has constituted a Budget Committee comprising renowned economists and budget experts and all Chambers of Commerce and Industry should send their proposals to FPCCI for preparing a consensus budget document that would be submitted to the FBR soon. These Remarks were made by Mr.Zubair Ahmed Malik, newly elected President of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) while addressing a luncheon meeting organized by Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) in his honour.
He said close liaison between FPCCI and all chambers of commerce and industry of the country is vital to raise a united voice of business community. He vowed that FPCCI will take all business bodies on board on important matters and make decisions with consensus. He said our country is facing multiple economic challenges including rising budget deficit, circular debt and low tax revenue and stressed that government should start immediate consultation with business leaders to steer the country out of difficult situation.
Mr.Zubair Ahmed Malik said that he has unveiled a 15-point agenda for bringing structural changes in the working of country’s apex trade body and improving Pakistan’s image worldwide with a view to attracting investment. He said that Chambers and associations must strengthen the hands of FPCCI so that this apex business body could play more effective in resolving businessmen problems.
President FPCCI said that the capital office of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Islamabad would augment liaison and coordination with foreign trade missions and embassies which would further establish business links with other foreign markets.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Zafar Bakhtawari, President ICCI congratulated Zubair Ahmed Malik on his appointment as the President of FPCCI and said that Mr.Malik’s efforts and vision for the welfare of business community and industrial development of the country are indeed creditable and commendable. He said that it was the matter of great honour for ICCI as Zubair Ahmed Malik has also been served as the former President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2004.
Mr. Bakhtawari said that businessmen play an important role in the development of national economy by promoting business, creating jobs and paying taxes. Therefore, they should be given due representation in government decision-making bodies for formulating business friendly economic policies and to recognize their role. He said that our country is facing huge economic government ensure basic ingredients required to pull the wheel of economy out of difficult phase.
