Islamabad: The participants of British Council International Study visit to Pakistan called on Deputy Speaker, National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi. The participants of International Study visit hail from Bangladesh, Bosnia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, UK, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Deputy Speaker apprised the participants about the formation, functions and organizational setup of the National Assembly and its Standing Committees. He said that the present Parliament in the Country had passed record number of legislation including the historic 18th, 19th and 20th constitutional amendments.
He said that the socio-economic uplift of the masses, welfare of the youth and gender equality was the main focus of present parliament. He said that the there was a vibrant opposition in the parliament and the opposition had played a very positive and constructive role in strengthening the parliament and democratic process.
The Deputy Speaker also apprised the participants about the formation and objectives of young parliamentarian’s forum in the National Assembly. He informed that a bipartisan young parliamentarian forum consists of 90 members of the National Assembly and Senate under 40 year age had established under his patronage.
He said that the main purpose of the Forum is to provide a platform to young parliamentarians where they can share and develop ideas, improve their legislative and leadership skills, and form inter-regional and inter-party networks.
Replying a question from participants regarding the 20th amendment he said that 20th amendment approved by the Parliament would ensure free fair and transparent election and independent Election Commission in the country. “It will also ensure a neutral interim setup for election and would strengthen the democratic process in the country” he said.
