Bosnia and Pakistan delegations hold Negotiations

Islamabad, October 10, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina Mr Bakir Izetbegovic arrived at the Prime Minister’s House this afternoon. He was received by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on his arrival at the PM’s House. Immediately, after his arrival, the Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf held a one to one meeting which lasted for over 15 minutes.

Both the leaders then held formal negotiations. The Prime Minister of Pakistan was assisted by Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan Minister for Communication, Syed Naveed Qamar Minister for Defence, Senator A Rehman Malik Minister for Interior, Mrs Hina Rabbani Khar Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mir Changez Khan Jamali Minister for Science and Technology, Foreign Secretary, Pakistan Ambassador in Bosnia Maj Gen Khalid Amir Jaffery while Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina was assisted by their Minister for Defence Mr Muhammad Ibrahimovic, Ambassador of Bosnia Herzegovina to Pakistan Mr Amin Limo and his Advisors.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the visit of the Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina will pave the way for more cooperation between both the countries. He also said that the people and the government of Pakistan have great respect for his father Mr Alija Izetbegovic.

The Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina introduced the members of the delegation and said that there is now stability in Bosnia Herzegovina and we are making efforts to attract investment and improve our economy. He said that Bosnia Herzegovina is also looking forward to join the European Union which will provide Pakistan a window to Europe and its markets.

The Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina thanked the government and the people of Pakistan for their continued support. He especially recalled the historic visit of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Tansu Ciller, former Prime Minister of Turkey which attracted international attention to the atrocities being committed against Bosnians. Mr Bakir Izetbegovic said that the purpose of his present visit was to explore new avenues of cooperation to further enhance the existing good relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister welcomed the proposal of the Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina to focus on specific projects so that both the countries could make tangible progress. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan being an agricultural country and having a large agro-based industry can extend cooperation in this field. The Prime Minister also said that both the countries need to work on Preferential Trade Agreement so that economic relations between the two countries can be based on sound footings.

Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Bosnia and support for Bosnia’s quest for memberships of European Union and NATO, the Prime Minister appreciated Bosnian support in bulky multilateral forums including our candidature for UN Security Council Non-Permanent seat.

The Prime Minister also proposed exchange of technical experts between the two countries and cooperation in the field of science and technology.

The Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina said that during his visit to Pakistan, he experienced warmth goodwill for Bosnia Herzegovina at all levels.
