Karachi, August 30, 2013 (PPI-OT): Bonsai Exhibition 2013 organized by Pakistan Bonsai Society in collaboration with Defence Housing Authority opened at DHA Zamzama Park on Friday evening. Administrator DHA Brig Muhammad Abdullah and Consul for Cultural and Public Affairs, Japanese Consulate, Karachi were the guest of honours on the occasion.
Bonsai is a fascinating horticultural art of growing trees in a small container to evoke nature in miniature form. The aesthetic delight and pleasure derived out of practicing Bonsai art has a soothing and positive effect on human senses which help in developing a harmonious and enlightened society.
Brig Abdullah commended the efforts of Pakistan Bonsai Society for promoting the fantastic Japanese art in Pakistan. He said that Bonsai Centre established by the Society at DHA Zamzama Park has emerged over the years as a nucleus for disseminating the knowledge of the intricate art in the country.
The Administrator reiterated that DHA was all out to support any initiative of the society for promotion of intellectually creative pursuits. He added that DHA also attached great importance to development of parks, roadside plantation and greenery for providing best recreational and relaxation facilities to its residents.
Earlier the President Pakistan Bonsai Society in his welcome address outlined the objectives of his organization. He termed Bonsai as an engrossing hobby with dedicated followers all over the world. He also thanked DHA for providing a beautiful place in Zamzama Park to Pakistan Bonsai Society (PBS) for organizing its activities.
Secretary PBS said that the mechanics of the intricate art of nurturing Bonsai plants revolved around selecting appropriate plants, containers, pruning, trimming and feeding of miniature trees. He said that success of growing Bonsai trees depended on maintaining harmony and balance in their growth and on their appropriate exposure to sunlight.
The event exhibited collections of the members of PBS comprising numerous miniature trees elegantly preserved in pots. The Exhibition will remain open for the general public till Sunday from 4 PM to 9 PM daily.
