Benazir Income Support Programme’s Executive Board Meets in Islamabad

Islamabad: 14th Executive Board Meeting of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) was held here at BISP Secretariat Islamabad today. Chairperson BISP, Madame Farzana Raja chaired the meeting. The meeting was attended by the BISP Board members namely Mr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Federal Minister for Finance, Ms. Shehnaz Wazir Ali, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Social Sector, Mr Shaukat Tareen, Chairman Silk Bank, Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Dean IBA, Mr. Ijaz Nabi, Professor of Economics at LUMS, Mr. Shamsh-Kassim Lakha, Chairman Centre for Philanthropy, Mr. Arif Nizami, Editor Pakistan Today and Mr. Muhammad Sher Khan, Secretary BISP.

The Board was given a comprehensive briefing on various social welfare initiatives being undertaken by BISP for the poorest of the poor population of Pakistan like Cash Grants, Waseela-e-Haq, Waseela-e-Rozgar, Waseela-e-Sehat and also the upcoming initiative of Waseela-e-Taleem.

The Members supported the noble mission of BISP and showed keen interest in these initiatives making it the flagship social protection programme of the country. The progress made so far by BISP was reviewed and various structural and operational aspects were discussed in order to further enhance the efficacy and performance of the programme.
