Islamabad: Federal Minister and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Madame Farzana Raja has said that the present democratic government is serving the poor across Pakistan including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan indiscriminately through the platform of BISP.
She said that this is an unprecedented programme in the social sector of the country which is envisaged to uplift the living standard of deprived strata of the country besides poverty alleviation. She said this while talking to Sardar Mohammad Yaqoob Khan, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir who met her at BISP Secretariat Thursday.
Madame Farzana Raja, at the occasion, presented details of various initiatives taken by BISP regarding poverty alleviation and informed the President of AJK that the objectives of poverty alleviation are being achieved through schemes like Waseela-e-Haq and Waseela-e-Rozgar in addition to regular cash grant to beneficiary families.
She said that Waseela-e-Taleem would be another landmark step of BISP which has been exclusively chalked out to promote education among the underprivileged segments of society. She said that more than one million children belonging to poor families would be enrolled in the schools as a first phase of the scheme.
The President of AJK Sardar Mohammad Yaqoob Khan appreciated the efforts of BISP alongwith effective and transparent mechanisms applied by the programme which have resulted in turning this programme into a comprehensive social safety net. He said that BISP is commendable initiative of the present democratic government which is beneficial to millions of poor families across Pakistan.
