Karachi: Mr Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, Provincial Minister Katchi Abadis said that Benazir Income Support Programme was launched in line with the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto wanted to empower the poor H e said this while addressing a ceremony held at BISP Regional Headquarter Karachi to distribute Waseela-e-Haq cheques among 14 beneficiary families of BISP.
He said that BISP is serving the masses irrespective of their colour, cast, creed, religion and political affiliations and bringing positive socio-economic impacts on millions of poor people. He also said that Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is a revolutionary programme under which women are being empowered and millions of poor families are being given direct financial support.
While speaking on the occasion Zafarullah Khan Soomro Director General Benazir Income Support Programme SINDH informed the audience that Waseela-e-Haq initiative is basically designed to promote self-employment among women beneficiaries to improve their livelihood.
It offers Rs.300, 000 long term interest free financial assistance to randomly selected beneficiary families, to be recovered in 15 years is issued without any collateral. He said the government had started helping deserving people in education, health, insurance and introduced insurance scheme for the widows who lost their bread earners.
Zafarullah Soomro highlighted outstanding features of the programme. He said that the basic theme of BISP is to empower the women and to exterminate the poverty from the country and this programme was started to fulfil the revelation of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He said the women who acquired the cheques underwent training programme. The beneficiary women were provided special training in order to enable them to begin their businesses.
