Karachi: Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and Government of Sindh have inked an agreement to launch Waseela-e-Haq Sindh Programme in the province. Mr. Sher Khan, Secretary BISP and Mr. Sohail Rajput, Special Secretary Finance Sindh signed the agreement on behalf of BISP and Government of Sindh respectively while Madame Farzana Raja, Chairperson BISP, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Chief Minister Sindh and Mr. Murad Ali Shah, Minister for Finance Sindh were also present on the occasion.
Under the agreement, BISP would provide technical assistance to government of Sindh in the shape of provision of complete data of deserving youth from province, designing of the programme, training of beneficiaries and its implementation while the Sindh Government would provide them an interest free financial assistance worth Rs. 300,000 each to initiate their own businesses. The scheme would be executed with the cooperation of Sindh Bank.
Madame Farzana Raja, while addressing a press conference after the signing ceremony, said that Sindh has taken lead in launching a project in coordination and cooperation with BISP. She said that the scheme is being initiated on the directions from President Asif Ali Zardari and it is aiming to provide financial assistance to youth within the age bracket of 19 to 35 and having education up to matriculation or above so that they may be able to start their own business with the help of this financial assistance worth of Rs. 3 lacs each. She added further that the deserving male and female beneficiary youth would also be provided with training to run and execute a business before provision of this interest free financial assistance.
Madame Farzana Raja said that currently more than 6 million families are getting benefitted from various endeavours of BISP and the total number ranges to 4 crore individuals. She said that Waseela-e-Haq Sindh is a welcome step, the eligibility for which has been ascertained on the basis of the data collected through BISP’s nationwide poverty survey.
Chairperson BISP said that 30 to 35 males and females from each Union council of Sindh will be included in this programme thus benefitting 35,000 young people of the province. She added that BISP is a national asset, a comprehensive poverty alleviation programme and the philanthropists should come forward for their generous support.
Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah while talking on the occasion termed Waseela-e-Haq Sindh programme as revolutionary step to curb unemployment and poverty in the province. He said that 25 lakh families of Sindh have benefitted from BISP up till now. He appreciated the performance of BISP and said that the transparency of the programme has been acknowledged world over.
Finance Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah said that Sindh Government has allocated 12 Billion Rs for the programme so that the youth of the province can be provided honourable livelihood opportunities. He acknowledged BISP as most effective and transparent poverty alleviation programme.
