Srinagar, October 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior leader of All Parties Hurriyet Conference and the patron of Ittihadul Muslimeen, Maulana Abbas Ansari, has said that ban on Muharram processions in the territory is unjustified.
Ittihadul Muslimeen held a special meeting in Srinagar with Maulana Abbas Ansari in the chair and discussed the formulation of plans for Muharram and rehabilitation of the flood victims in the occupied territory. Maulana Abbas Ansari in a statement issued after the meeting said, “We don’t hope any kind of support from the paralyzed administration, however we will put our legitimate religious demands before it. The memorial gatherings, meetings and processions for the martyrs of Karbala will be taken out with great pomp and exemplary discipline this year.”
He demanded that the unjustified ban on main Muharram processions should be removed immediately as this was the open violation of international laws. He announced that the procession of 8th Muharram would be taken out in spite of all the barriers.
It is to mention here that traditionally main procession of 8th Muharram used to start in Srinagar from Shaheed Gunj and culminate at Dalgate after passing through different areas while the procession of 10th Muharram would start from Aabi Guzar and end at Zadibal. However, the occupation authorities banned these processions in 1990 and now only small mourning rallies are allowed in selected areas.
