Peshawar: Like other parts of the country, International Anti Corruption Day was also observed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a befitting manner. Beside seminars and walks all over the Province, one of the major event was a seminar held at Nishtar Hall Peshawar which was jointly organized by Govt of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and NAB(KPK).
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar was the chief guest. Provincial Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Atta Ullah Khan, DG NAB(KPK) Brig (R) Muhammad Musaddiq Abbasi, Secretary Establishment Muhammad Arifeen and Director A and P Col (R) Waheedullah Khan also spoke on the occasion.
DG NAB(KPK) said that corruption is globally viewed as a security risk and needed to be handled with multi-prong strategy vis-à-vis awareness, prevention and enforcement he added that our strategy is purely in line with Islamic teachings which also laid great emphasis on “Amar Bil Maroof and Nahi Anil Munker”.
He was appreciative of the Govt of KPK support adding that NAB(KPK) and Govt of KPK have evolved a comprehensive strategy spanning over a period of three years (2011-14) which he hoped would have far reaching impact to uphold the supremacy of meritocracy, rule of law, good governance and transparency. The speakers at the seminar stressed the need of collective and coordinated efforts to fight corruption as well as strengthen anti corruption agencies.
The speakers were of the view to target young generation and focus on their character building. NAB(KPK) has already touched this area and so far established 19 Character Building Societies in Public and Private Sector Universities of the Province which will be taken down to colleges and schools level.
Apart from that anti corruption committees will also be established at district, tehsil and union council level to take on board all stakeholders in order to fight the evil with collective efforts and wisdom.
