Authorities sheltering troops involved in IOK HR abuses: VoV

Srinagar, December 10, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, local human rights defender group ‘Voice of Victims’ on the eve of International Human Rights Day said that the authorities were sheltering the Indian troops and police personnel who perpetrated grave human rights violations in the territory. The VoV Executive Director, Abdul Qadeer in a statement issued in Srinagar said that despite highlighting the rights abuses perpetrated by the Indian forces at international level, the rights violations continued to take place in Kashmir.

He said that, today, when the whole world is celebrating ‘Human Rights Day’, the families of Kupwara youth missing mysteriously in custody were demanding justice but there was no one who would hear them and do justice with the families. Abdul Qadeer said that similarly the families whose family members particularly teenagers had been imprisoned in baseless cases were waiting for justice.

He said that no a single case of fake encounters, torture incidents, unmarked mass graves, extra-judicial killings, custodial killings, harassment and rape had reached to its conclusion and no trooper involved in such grave crimes had been punished. Qadeer, demanding a probe into all the crimes and rights abuses committed by the forces said that state instead of punishing the troopers is shielding them.
