Islamabad, November 29, 2016 (PPI-OT): Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Margaret Adamson today hosted the Lahore Qalandars Player Development Program T20 cricket team upon their return from a successful triangular series against academy teams from the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers.
The six match series held this month was the result of an MOU signed between Australian Big Bash League (BBL) club Sydney Thunder and Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars. The agreement enables the two clubs to exchange players, management expertise and coaching staff.
Lahore Qalandars won four of the six matches played, losing two to Sydney Thunder in a series which showcased quality cricket and sportsmanship. High Commissioner Adamson welcomed the partnership noting that the common love of cricket shared by the people of Pakistan and Australia continued to be an excellent vehicle for building understanding between the two countries.
“Cricket is particularly powerful in reaching out to the young who represent the future of our two countries and who are the focus of so much of Australia’s work in Pakistan. I congratulate Lahore Qalandars and Sydney Thunder on embarking on this partnership. These tours and the sharing of sports management expertise will help develop emerging cricket talent in both countries and build on our strong people-to-people links,” Ms Adamson said.
CEO Lahore Qalandars, Atif Rana said: “It is great to be the part of such an interesting and historical project. And it was more satisfying to select the children from the street and give them positive hope and initiatives for their future. My franchise believes in giving them the best environment and opportunities for their future goals.”
The Lahore Qalandars Player Development Program team comprised players identified through the talent hunt program, ‘Jazz Rising Star Talent Hunt’. The talent hunt program aims to develop grass roots cricket in Pakistan by providing youth a platform to hone and showcase their skills.
