Srinagar, August 02, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, civil curfew and shutdown will be observed in Rajouri district of Jammu region on Monday (August 6) to protest the assault on Article 35-A. This was decided, today, in a meeting which was attended by Ulema, Muslim Welfare Forum and civil society members at Eidgah Masjid in the district. The meeting was presided over by Ghulam Rasool Khateeb.
The speakers discussed the burning issue of Article 35-A which is listed before the Indian Supreme Court for hearing on 6th August, said a member of civil society, who participated in the meeting.
Raising voice against the attempts to repeal of the Article, which defines the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir, the speakers decided that rallies would be taken out after Juma prayers, tomorrow, to express resentment against the move. They also decided to observe shutdown and civil curfew on Monday, August 6.
The participants later held a press conference at Press Club Rajouri where they made a formal announcement of the strike call. “We appeal to people from all walks of life to be a part of this strike, which will be peaceful,” said a speaker.
The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik and trade bodies in occupied Kashmir have already called for shutdown on August 5 and 6 to protest the attack on the Article 35-A.
