Srinagar, January 22, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (G), Syed Ali Gilani has called for complete shutdown on 26th January – the Indian Republic Day – to remind the world that India’s continued denial of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination is contrary to its claim of being a democratic republic. Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar said that India claimed to be the largest democracy of the world but its democratic credentials stood badly exposed in occupied Kashmir where its troops had been committing the worst human rights violations.
The Secretary General of the APHC (G), Shabbir Ahmed Shah, in a statement in Srinagar said that India had no moral or constitutional justification to celebrate its Republic Day in Jammu and Kashmir as it was occupying the territory against the will of the Kashmiri people. Muhammad Yasin Malik in his statement maintained that the Republic Day of a country that has snatched the democratic right of Kashmiris by military might can never be the day of joy for oppressed people and that’s why they will mark it by complete shutdown to express their resentment against the Indian occupation.
Hurriyet leaders, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, addressing a public gathering at Yaripora in Kulgam and Zafar Akbar Butt in a statement in Srinagar strongly denounced the arrest and harassment of youth ahead of Indian Republic Day. Zafar Akbar Butt also visited a hospital in Srinagar and enquired about the health of the youth who were injured in the indiscriminate firing of Indian troops on peaceful protesters in Pulwama on Wednesday.
