Islamabad, July 03, 2017 (PPI-OT):Persistent and dedicated efforts are required to maintain status of Islamabad a polio free city. Training of the polio workers and supervisory staff is most essential element which would help curb polio menace from the city. All available resources would be utilized to make upcoming polio eradication campaign and routine immunization a success.
Chief Officer MCI and Member Planning and Design CDA, Asad Mehboob Kiyani expressed these views during a training program organized for zonal supervisors and area in-charges of polio upcoming polio drive commencing from July 10, 2017. On this occasion, Director Health Services (MCI), representatives, trainers and observers of World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and Polio Emergency Cell eradication and large number of polio workers and supervisory staff of polio eradication campaign were present.
On this occasion, Chief Officer was briefed that National Polio Eradication Campaign will commence from 10th to 13th July, 2017. In order to achieve desired results from the campaign, Islamabad has been divided into 26 zones and each zone will be headed by a Medical Officer / Senior Health Professional from Health Services Directorate.
It was also informed that 503 house to house mobile teams have been constituted, in addition to 93 fixed teams and 44 transit teams established at various bus stands and major chowks, shopping malls and medical centers to vaccinate those children who are travelling with their parents during campaign days. It was further informed that during the month of Ramadan a very effective polio campaign in high risk zones was conducted. This campaign was assessed by WHO by taking four (04) LQAS lots one from each Zone and all lots have been passed in very high band.
