Islamabad, April 08, 2014 (PPI-OT): ANF Karachi received source information that huge quantity of Heroin is being smuggled from Pakistan to Africa by sea. Acting upon the information, ANF imposed High Alert at all seaports and enforced strict check on all African bound shipments.
After a detailed scrutiny, ANF Teams picked up a Container No.PICU-1615231 of Popular Corporation as a suspicious consignment. Detail search revealed that Container was loaded with General Store items, including 1038 Tins of edible oil, out of which 24 Tins were heaving sealed packets of 57.6 Kgs Heroin. The consignment was seized at PICT Seaport, Karachi and was destined for Nigeria via Benin.
ANF arrested clearing agent Sadique of SAS Clearing Agency, who showed his ignorance about contents of consignment. Owner of Popular Corporation, Shoaib Sultan was also arrested, who later assisted in apprehension of Abdullah Umer, a closed associate of owner of consignment. Abdullah Umer disclosed that a Nigerian National, Richard Duru is owner of consignment, who has frequently visited Pakistan for the last 5-6 years and lastly came 2 weeks ago and then left for Dubai.
ANF investigation team revealed that Richard Duru was still in Pakistan and further confirmed his presence at Islamabad. Later he was arrested on his return to Karachi. At the time of arrest Richard Duru was in possession of US$ 20,000/-, Rs.5,00,000/- and Nigerian currency (Nairo) 5,90,000/-. Case has been registered in ANF Police Station and further investigations are under process.
