Islamabad, May 14, 2014 (PPI-OT): ANF Intelligence shared information with National Crime Agency (NCA) of Britain that consignments of 46 bales of carpets, containing Heroin have been sent from Afghanistan to United Kingdom via Pakistan. Acting on the information, NCA recovered 200 Kgs of Heroin and initially arrested 1 person namely Elech.
According to details, ANF intelligence received information from a reliable source that an Afghan gang is involved in smuggling of Heroin to UK via Pakistan. The gang adopted an innovative technique of concealment, that is, they use to conceal Heroin in threads of carpets during weaving at Afghanistan.
Acting on the information, ANF intelligence laid traps at different entry / exit points of the country. However the drug smugglers managed to get the consignment dispatched for Manchester International Airport by Eithaad Air Cargo Services from Bacha Khan International Airport, Peshawar.
ANF intelligence immediately took NCA (UK) in confidence and shared the information, which responded promptly and seized the consignment. UK authorities initially detained 2 persons, however one out of them was granted bail, while the other person namely Elech is under arrest.
NCA extracted 200 Kgs of Heroin from threads of 46 carpets. The extraction of Heroin from woven carpet threads took considerable time. The method of concealment is being shared internationally for awareness of other international counterparts.
The operation is being regarded as a well coordinated and promptly executed action at international level. UK authorities have also acknowledged the contribution of ANF intelligence. Investigations of this case are still under progress in Pakis tan and UK.
