Another person involved in Samjhauta Express blasts held

New Delhi, December 18, 2012 (PPI-OT): Dhan Singh, a prime suspect in the 2007 Samjhauta Express blast case, was arrested by the Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Madhya Pradesh. He is the second person to be apprehended in the last few days.

Dhan Singh was arrested from Chitrakoot along the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border. He was also suspected to be involved in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case. Dhan Singh was known as “Swamiji” in Chitrakoot.

The NIA had on December 15 arrested Rajender Chaudhary (34) from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh for his involvement in carrying out the blast in the Pakistan-bound train. Rajender was produced in a Panchkula court that remanded him in police custody for 12 days.

While Rajender was being brought to the district courts amid tight security, he admitted that he had planted the bomb. However, when he returned from the courtroom, he said whatever he said earlier was out of pressure and that he had done nothing. The blasts, in 2007 had left nearly 70 persons dead and 100 injured – most of them Pakistanis.
