Another Indian artist sings paeans for Afzal Guru

Srinagar, March 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): Days after a Bengali MP composed a song in memory of Mohammad Afzal Guru, a Mumbai-based rapper, Ashwini Mehra aka A-list has come out with a powerful song on the life story of Afzal Guru who was hanged on February 9 in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

The five-minute song titled “True lies-Tale of Afzal Guru,” was released on Sound Cloud, an online audio distribution platform. It also mentions excesses and massacres committed by Indian forces in the occupied territory with Afzal’s tale as its central theme.

“The tale of Afzal Guru—listen and learn what the Indian media never tells you,” Ashwini posted along with the song on Sound Cloud. The song starts with a loud chorus, “Enough of the lies, let me tell you what is true, this is how we took the life of Afzal Guru,” and repeats after every verse. The first verse starts with the hanging of Afzal Guru and tries to introduce Kashmir as a place that has been marred by massacres and excesses by the Indian forces.

“February 9th, they executed a man, I step in the booth and I stand, telling the truth is my plan. I heard the news, I was damn, none of the youth understand.

The second verse questions the silence over atrocities on Kashmiris like the infamous Kunan-Poshpora mass rape to Gaw Kadal massacre.

Another verse talks about the torture Afzal received during his detentions and blames the dreaded Special Task Force (STF) for getting confession out of Afzal Guru that was broadcast on Indian news channels.
