Karachi: The govt. intends to raise power tariff by another 12% in phases in which 2% is to be increased after every two months in order to generate funds to meet the circular debt crises. The repeated hike in electricity charges has burdened those consumers who have been settling their outstanding dues regularly.
According to Alfalah Securities Limited, since no stringent measures have been administered on thefts, defaults and line losses, there are chances of more consumers switching to illegal means of electricity consumption or the default rate would rise. Therefore, Alfalah Securities believes that such exorbitant rise in power tariff would be counterproductive if not done along with administrative measures to curb thefts and line losses.
