Karachi, March 24, 2017 (PPI-OT): To celebrate the international week of French language and of French speakers the Alliance Francaise de Karachi, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Switzerland and the Consulate General of France, organized “Soirée Francophone Franco-Suisse” on March 21.
Mr. Philippe CREVOISIER – Swiss Consul General and Mr. François DALL’ORSO -French Consul General in their addresses highlighted the importance of French language and its significance for French speakers all over the world and in both countries.
Highlight of the evening was screening of “La Femme et le TGV” (the Railroad Lady), in French with English subtitles. La Femme et le TGV is a 2016 Swiss French-language short film directed by Timo VON GUNTEN. It received critical acclaim and was nominated for many industry awards including the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 89 th Academy Awards in 2017 with producer Giacun CADUFF. Ms. Nausheen DADABHOY, a Pakistani cinematographer based in New York and who is the Director of photography of this film, also spoke (via Skype) about her motivation and experience.
At the end of the event, Mr. Jean-François CHÉNIN – Director of the Alliance Francaise thanked the audience, present among which were other diplomats, leading businessmen, representatives of media and students.
To mark “Goût de France” (Good France), which is a worldwide celebration of French gastronomy, an exclusive dinner was also arranged the same evening at Côte Rôtie restaurant at the Alliance Francaise and a dinner was hosted by the French Consul General at the Avari Towers Karachi.
