Ahsan Iqbal visits Puttalam Coal Power Plant being set up by Chinese company in north of Colombo

Colombo, September 04, 2013 (PPI-OT): Prof Ahsan Iqbal visited 900mw Puttalam Coal Power Plant being set up by Chinese company in coastal area 140 ams north of Colombo, in Sri Lanka today. He was accompanied by senior officials of Water and Power and Foreign Ministries.

Prof. Ahsan Iqbal said, “PML-N government is planning 6,600mw coal based Gaddani energy park with the assistance of Chinese companies. The experience of Sri Lanka is very relevant in this regard. Pakistan wants to utilize more coal, hydel, and gas for power generation and move away from furnace oil based power generation as oil prices have increased many fold and enhanced per unit generation cost.

Energy security is the top most priority of PM Nawaz Sharif government. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have strong bonds of friendship and will present government wants to build strong economic foundations of this relationship.”

Earlier, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal arrived at the plant site and warmly received by the management of the plant. President of Sri Lanka specially provided helicopter for the visit.
