Ahmer Bilal Soofi decides not to take his Salary as Law Minister

Islamabad, April 04, 2013 (PPI-OT): Ahmer Bilal Soofi has communicated to the Cabinet Division that he will not take his salary and allowances as caretaker Law Minister.

The Minister took charge of his office at the Ministry of Law and Justice and held meetings with senior officials of the Division. He also held separate meetings with officials of the Parliamentary Affairs Divisions. The officials from both Divisions briefed the Minister about the working of their different departments and wings.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that his primary focus during this interim period would be to take meaningful and constructive steps that will prove beneficial for the country in the future. He said that the Ministry of Law is advising the Federation on all legal affairs and its officials must put in their best efforts.

The Minister also highlighted that after 18th amendment the Ministry needs to render assistance to the Provincial Ministries to fast track law making and other administrative steps that will serve as the basis for good governance of the elected government.

He also stated that Ministry has the responsibility to remain mindful of the international treaty commitments made by Pakistan and ensure that legislation and sub-ordinate rules approved by the Ministry’s officers reflect and properly implement the same as all this has important bearing on the standing of Pakistan as a responsible state in the comity of nations. Minister also invited suggestions from his officials on any deficiencies in existing legislation that require issuance of appropriate rules so that the same can be considered.

Minister stated that during his short tenure he will also make an effort to concentrate on the state specific matters as opposed to regime specific issues and in this regard discussed several ideas.

He also discussed with his officials the ways and means to improve the infra-structure of the administrative tribunals which if functioning properly can decrease load on the Superior Courts.

The Minister encouraged his officials to take advantage of this unique opportunity to bring about positive changes. He also advised the officials to dispose all pending work on a priority basis. The Minister also emphasized on improved assistance to courts in order to protect the Federation’s interests in litigation.
