Ahmed Faraz will be remembered forever due to his great literary contributions: Sharmila Farooqui

Karachi, May 21, 2015 (PPI-OT): Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh Ms. Sharmila Farooqui lauded the services rendered by great poet of his time, better known for modern Urdu poet of the last century, Ahmed Faraz and said that he was the man who introduced romantic adolescents, sometimes hailing revolution, and other time wrapped in nostalgia in Urdu poetry with natural essence. This she said while addressing in a program “A tribute to Ahmed Faraz” organized by Sindh Culture and Tourism Department to remember great Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz at a local hotel on Wednesday evening.

The first poet I read in my teenage was Faraz, and I am still fond of his poetry; she added. She includes that Faraz is international entity, his romantic poems gained enormous recognition across the globe. Although Ahmed Faraz is no more in this world, still he would be remembered for his great literary contributions.

She informed that, unfortunately; when he raised his voice against the dictatorship of General Zia-ul-Haq, he was exiled for six years, which he spent in London, Canada and other European states. Later however, he was awarded with Hilalee-Imtiaz in 2004 for his meritorious services in the field of literature.

Ahmed Faraz son Sarmad Faraz, brother Barrister Masood Kauser and his other close friends of Ahmed Faraz including Prof Sehar Ansari, Dr Asif Farrukhi and Hameed Akhund also share some memorable and interesting moments with participants. They said that, we are grateful to see that Sindh culture and tourism department has arranged such a colourful event.

Large number of people belongs to different walks of life including, Commissioner Karachi Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Haseena Moin, Arshad Mehmood, Managing Director Sindh Tourism Development Corporation Nazeer Ahmed Soomro, Director General Culture Manzoor Kanasro and many more witnessed the colourful event, and highly appreciated. The ceremony was concluded with classical singing by Humera Channa and Muhammad Ali, who present the beautiful poetry of Ahmed Faraz.
