AFSPA shame on Indian democracy: Ex-IB official

Guwahati, January 31, 2013 (PPI-OT): Former Indian Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), RN Ravi has said that the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act is a shame on a democratic country like India.

RN Ravi in a media interview in Guwhati said that in the year 2011, Assam was one of the top states in the list, which recorded extrajudicial killings.

He said that the AFSPA was the biggest impediment to the restoration of peace in Assam “as a war like situation is being created.”

Occupied Kashmir and the Indian states of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur have been declared disturbed areas under the provisions of the AFSPA.
