Islamabad, January 28, 2013 (PPI-OT): Afghanistan Defence Minister General Bismellah Khan Mohammadi called on the President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr, today.
The defence minister was accompanied by Lt. Gen Baz Mohammad Jowhari, First Deputy Defence Minister, Mr. Mohammed Umer Daudzai, Ambassador, Maj Gen Payenda Mohammad Nazim,, Maj Gen Aminullah Karim, Commander of National Defence University, Maj Gen Abdul Manan Farahi, DG Military Intelligence for General Staff, Maj Gen Afzal Aman, DG Militant Operation for General Staff and other high officials.
From Pakistan side, the meeting was attended among others by Defence minister, Syed Naveed Qamar, Secretary General to the President, Mr. A. Salman Faruqui, Foreign secretary Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani and Defence Secretary, Lt Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik.
Peace process in Afghanistan, regional situation and Pak- afghan bilateral relations particularly defence ties were discussed during the meeting.
Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that President Zardari while welcoming the afghan delegation said Pakistan firmly believes that peace and stability in Afghanistan was in our own national interest and therefore we support all efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The President said that Pakistan will continue its all out cooperation to Afghanistan in all fields including defence to ensure lasting peace in the region.
The President said that Pakistan and Afghanistan are linked with social cultural and religious ties and as such the destinies of two brotherly nations are inter-twined.
The Spokesperson said that the President expressed the hope that the forthcoming Trilateral Summit of Pakistan-UK and Afghanistan being held in London would further underpin Pak-Afghan bilateral relations and would help to further improve the regional peace and stability.
The Afghan delegation thanked President Zardari for the support and cooperation Pakistan has been extending towards peace, stability and development of Afghanistan.
