Islamabad: Admiral Asif Sandela, Chief of Naval Staff of Pakistan was received by HRH Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister for Defence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in his office today in Riyadh.
Admiral Asif Sandela is on an official visit to the Kingdom on the invitation of Vice Admiral Dakheel Ullah bin Ahmed Al-Waqdani, Commander Royal Saudi Naval Forces. The Chief of Naval Staff of Pakistan is scheduled to visit other cities in the Kingdom to interact with the Eastern and Western fleets of the country.
In his meeting with HRH Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Admiral Sandela extended the greetings and good wishes of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan as well as the Minister of Defence, which was warmly reciprocated by HRH Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz.
The two dignitaries reviewed the existing bilateral cooperation between the navies of the two brotherly countries and expressed complete satisfaction over the relationship. They also discussed the scope of further consolidation of this long-standing and close cooperation in the future, particularly in the field of joint exercises and training of officers and other personnel. The Saudi Minister for Defence emphasized that Pakistan is the priority country for Saudi Arabia.
In an simple yet impressive ceremony at the Ministry of Defence, Minister for Defence HRH Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz conferred on Admiral Asif Sandela the award of King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Rank in recognition of his services for the promotion of closer cooperation and expansion of bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. High ranking officers of the Saudi Ministry of Defence and the Ambassador of Pakistan HE Mr. Muhammad Naeem Khan were present on the solemn occasion.
Earlier, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Asif Sandela held meetings with General Hussain bin Abdullah Al Qubbayyal, Chief of General Staff and Vice Admiral Dakheel Ullah bin Ahmed Al-Waqdani, Commander Royal Saudi Naval Forces and held discussions on various aspects of the bilateral cooperation between the navies of the two countries. It was agreed in the meetings to further enhance the close relationship in all fields and to hold regular joint exercises as well as to expand the current level of training collaboration.
