Karachi, March 30, 2014 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has directed the Municipal Services Department to compile monthly computerized record of garbage disposal at the two landfill sites of KMC and use this record for preparation of a comprehensive policy for disposal of garbage generated in different areas of the city on daily and monthly basis.
He said this on a visit of Jam Chakro landfill site on Sunday along with the Director General Engineering Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Senior Director Municipal Services Masood Alam and other officers.
Administrator Karachi during his visit instructed officers that computerized receiving slip should be issued to the vehicles which lift garbage from different areas of Karachi and dispose it to landfill site and this slip should contain the name of concerned DMC and the areas where the garbage was collected.
He said no society could negate the importance of cleanliness and health care as the better sanitation put refreshing and healthy effect on the minds of people. He said the city generates a total of 13,800 tons of garbage daily whereas it could only disposes off 7 to 8 thousand tones out of it to landfill sites.
He directed municipal services staff to arrange for disposal of all garbage generated in the city with the help and coordination of district municipal corporations. In a briefing to Administrator Karachi, Senior Director Municipal Services said the garbage generates in the city was dumped to landfill site at Jam Chakro and Gondpass and this facility was using by the KMC, district municipal corporations, cantonment boards and defence housing authority.
Each garbage carrier shifts 20 to 22 tons of garbage in every visit of landfill sites where the vehicle number was noted and garbage weighed so that a proper record of garbage disposal could be maintained. He further informed that daily 3 to 3 and a half thousand tons of garbage was carried to these landfill sites.
