Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation expresses concern over increased cases of oral cancer

Karachi: Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed has said that use of betel leaf, betel nut, gutkha, mainpuri and supari was the biggest cause of mouth cancer. Number of patients suffered with these ailments rising to an alarming proportion in Karachi.

He was addressing to a seminar held in the Karachi Medical and Dental College as chief guest on the subject of Oral Cancer and dental diseases. Municipal Commissioner KMC Matanat Ali Khan, Principal KMDC Professor Dr. Waqar Kazmi, Vice Principal professor Dr. Mehmood Haider, Dr. Tin Chun Wang President World Dental Foundation and other high officials were also present on this occasion.

Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said that the Government of Pakistan had recently imposed ban on the use of Gutkha in the country so that the people could be saved from these harmful disease. He said that besides urban areas about 50 to 60 percent of rural population was also suffered with oral cancer.

Administrator Karachi said that new technology was being used in KMDC for treatment of dental diseases and new equipments were purchased for this purpose. President of World Dental Federation Dr. Tin Chun Wang also spoke on this occasion and later inspected the various wards of dental clinic in KMDC. Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed inaugurated the CSSD Unit in KMDC.
