Karachi, March 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi using the powers delegated by Government of Sindh has given the approval of recommendations for the betterment of dispensaries and maternity homes in Lyari however this resolution will be under section 80 of Sindh Local Government Ordinance 1979.
According to the resolution the population of Lyari Town consisting of 11 UCs was about 79 Lac where six dispensaries and five maternity homes exist for providing facilities to people out of which four maternity homes were operational and only two were providing services for 24 hours where capacity of ten beds was available whereas 35 to 40 deliveries were done on daily basis.
Following the directive of CM Sindh the measures for improving medical centers of Lyari were taken and 95 to 100 percent construction work has been completed for which three new ambulances were purchased.
According to memorandum these maternity homes would be expanded up to 15 beds and it was necessary to carryout the works which include remaining construction work, provision of furniture, medical equipment, establishment of laboratory for tests and purchasing of ambulances whereas immediate appointment of doctors and paramedical staff and referral system of these maternity homes with big hospitals were also essential whereas recommendations for latest equipment for operation, infrastructure for ICU unit and residential facilities for staff were forwarded so that these medical centers in Lyari could provide better services.
