Islamabad, April 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): Acting U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan David D. Pearce, Special Assistant to the President and Coordinator for Afghanistan and Pakistan Lieutenant General (retd) Douglas Lute, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs Dr. Peter Lavoy visited Pakistan April 21-22.
Ambassador Pearce, LTG (ret.) Lute, and Dr. Lavoy met with Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani and Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to discuss ways in which the United States and Pakistan can continue to work together to advance the Afghan-led reconciliation process, and contribute to a secure, stable, and prosperous future for the region.
During his visit, Ambassador Pearce reiterated U.S. support to Pakistan’s democratic process, stating, “The United States looks forward to timely, transparent, free, and fair elections in Pakistan on May 11. We are committed to continuing to build our bilateral partnership with the government and the leadership elected by the voters.”
