Aasiya condemns awarding of life sentence to Kashmiri youth

Srinagar, October 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi has condemned the awarding of life sentence to four Kashmiri youth by an Indian court.

A court in Jaipur city in Indian state of Rajasthan awarded the life imprisonment to the youth, Lateef Ahmad Waza, Ali Muhammad Butt, Mirza Nisar Hussain, Abdul Ghani Goni and Javaid Ahmad Khan for their role in the freedom struggle on Kashmir. They have already spent over 18 years in Indian jails as under-trial prisoners.

Aasiya Andrabi in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the life sentence awarded after 18 years of imprisonment as under-trail was the worst form of injustice. She said that the Delhi court had acquitted the youth three years ago. She said instead of releasing them, they were shifted to Rajasthan and awarded life sentences.

She urged the people of Kashmir to raise voice for early release of all illegally detained political leaders and activists.
