Srinagar, May 04, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Awami Action Committee (AAC) has finalized the arrangements for the forthcoming Martyrdom Week commencing from May 16 to commemorate the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent martyred Hurriyet leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khwaja Abdul Ghani Lone.
A statement issued at the end of the working committee meeting of Awami Action Committee in Srinagar said that several issues including deteriorating political situation and increasing human rights violations were discussed on the occasion. The AAC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, presided over the meeting.
The meeting also gave final shape to the martyrdom Week programme, marking the 26th martyrdom anniversary of the founder of the AAC, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, and the martyrs of Hawal of May 21, 1990. “The Working Committee paid glowing tributes to Molvi Muhammad Farooq and 67 other people who were martyred by Indian troops at Hawal in Srinagar. Participants resolved that the mission of martyrs would be taken to its logical conclusion,” the statement said.
It is to mention here that unidentified gunmen shot at Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq in Srinagar killing him on the spot on 21st May in 1990. Over seventy mourners were killed when Indian troops fired at his funeral procession in Hawal area of Srinagar. On the same day in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was martyred by unknown attackers, when he was returning after addressing a gathering at Mazar-e-Shuhada in Srinagar.
