Islamabad, August 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): A high level meeting of Operational Officers of National Highways and Motorway Police was held on 21-08-2013 at NH and MP Headquarters Islamabad under the chairmanship of Inspector General, NH and MP Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema.
The meeting was attended by DIGs of Motorways, North and Central Zones and their SSPs. IG said that equal application of law on motorways and highways will generate law abiding culture in the society which will change the whole society and then the nation would be included in the law abiding nations. IG NH and MP Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema while addressing the operational officers reiterated that motorway police would be presented as a Model Police upon which the nation would feel proud on its professionalism and good conduct.
He said that no officer of bad reputation would be tolerated in NH and MP. It was decided in the meeting that on motorways, on traffic violations, license punching system would be adopted and on repeated traffic violations, license would be sent for cancellation.
He said that the standard of NH and MP driving schools is being upgraded and the duration of course has also been enhanced from 04 weeks to 06 weeks. He added that state of the art driving schools would be established in the provincial capitals. It was also decided in the meeting that strict action would be taken on violations of lane discipline, over speeding, seat belt and on usage of mobile phone while driving and would be heavily fined.
He said that overloading in PSV vehicles would also be stopped with strict enforcement and overloaded vehicles would also be impounded. IG NH and MP Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema while addressing the operational officers said that very soon road safety seminars would be organized in the provincial capitals in which road safety activities would be highlighted.
