Islamabad, October 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): A delegation of Office of Inspector General (OIG), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) headed by Inspector General Michael G. Carroll called on Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry here today at NAB Headquarters.
A high level meeting was held between the delegations of NAB and USAID/OIG authorities. Both the agencies agreed to help each other for transparent execution of USAID’s development projects in Pakistan and reducing chances of corruption by taking preventive measures.
During the meeting Chairman NAB emphasized that precious public funds must be spent with utmost care and attention. The function of oversight bodies like NAB and USAID/OIG becomes enhanced as both are assigned responsibilities in this respect. He said that no hinderance in smooth execution of projects will be allowed as long as funds are being spent in correct span of time and transparent manner.
Inspector General, USAID while talking during the meeting said OIG really values its relationship with NAB. He pledged that USAID will assist the Bureau in investigating corruption cases related to USAID projects. He expressed his thanks to NAB authorities for the help being given to OIG by investigating USAID development projects’ cases.
It is pertinent to mention here that in June 2014 NAB recovered Rs 11.7 million through Voluntary Return (VR) in a corruption case of USAID/FATA livelihood development program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and handed over to the USAID authorities.
