6th Asia-Europe Culture Ministers’ Conference opens on October 20 – Information Minister to represent Pakistan

Rotterdam, October 19, 2014 (PPI-OT): 6th Asia-Europe Culture Ministers’ Conference (ASEM) will open on Monday, October 20, 2014 here in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. About 40 Culture Ministers and delegates from different countries from Asia and Europe are participating in this two days conference that will be inaugurated by the King of the Netherlands, His Majesty Willem- Alexander. Theme of this year’s Moot is” Creative Industries for Society: Talent, Technology and Trade”.

Pakistan is being represented by the Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Senator Pervaiz Rashid. In his statement on arrival, the Federal Minister said that he was looking forward to exchange experiences and discuss the benefits and challenges of creative industries with the Ministers and representatives of the participating countries.

He expressed hope that the platform of ASEM would provide an opportunity to learn about innovative ideas and practices in the field of culture, education, science and business. On the sidelines of the conference, the Federal Minister will also hold a meeting with the Dutch Minister for Education, Culture and Science, Ms. Jet Bussemaker and discuss with her the bilateral relations and cooperation in the field of education and cultural exchanges between Pakistan and the Netherlands.

Dutch Minister for Culture, Education and Science, Ms. Jet Bussemaker has said in her message on the 6th ASEM Meet, “Innovation is a key prerequisite to meeting the societal challenges of the 21st century. Creative skills are indispensable to finding new solutions to problems and to facilitating economic growth. Societal progress depends on innovation, new ideas, and solutions for the major problems of our time.”

The start of the 21st century has required Asia and Europe to employ development strategies to foster human creative potential to respond to the cultural, economic, social, and technological shifts taking place. Creative industries have the ability to make use of culture to provide new insights and new solutions to benefit both societal and economic goals, she added.
