48 points fixed in Karachi for Motor Vehicle Tax Recovery: Chawla

Karachi, November 07, 2012 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that 48 points in Karachi and 5 points in Hyderabad have been fixed for Motor Vehicle Tax Recovery Campaign that starts from 12th November and Excise and Taxation Department Teams under ETOs have been formed to nab the defaulters and these teams will work according to the law.

This he said while talking to mediamen here at his camp office on Wednesday. He said that during the campaign action would be taken against vehicles plying without number plates, suspicious number plates or expired temporary registration or old registration numbers, fancy number plates, or plying with personalized number plates.

Provincial Minister said that the directives had been issued to personnel of Excise Department to deal with the owners of the vehicles politely, however the documents of the defaulters vehicles would be confiscated and such vehicles would also be impounded.

These defaulters vehicles and documents would be released after payment of due tax and fine. Mukesh Kumar Chawla added ‘It has also been directed to the personnel of the Excise and Taxation Department that they should ensure that during the road checking road should not be blocked and one vehicle should be stopped at a time of checking.’

He said that action would be taken against those personnel who misbehaved with the owners of the vehicles during the checking. Checking spots in Karachi were Mazar-e-Quaid, Jail Road, Kharadar, Lal Kothi, Shaheen Complex, Gul Bai, West Wharf, SITE, KDA Chowrangi, PIB Colony, Malir Cantonment and Malir City.
