3 sites selected for Pandit colonies in north Kashmir

Srinagar, June 20, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, three sites have been identified for construction of separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits in Baramulla and Kupwara.

A plot of 150 kanals along the Srinagar-Baramulla highway, at Kanispora, Jahama in Baramulla has been selected for the purpose.

The revenue officers forwarded their report to the deputy commissioner, who had passed it on to the divisional commissioner. The revenue officers informed that payment for the land was yet to be made to the owners. The divisional commissioner had directed the deputy commissioners of Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts to identify land for settling Kashmiri Pandits, specifying that the land should be close to district headquarters, close to camps of security forces, along main roads, and, most importantly, should be a big plot.

The deputy commissioners then directed the tehsildars of Kupwara, Handwara, Baramulla, Sumbal and Bandipora to identify such land in their respective areas.

Revenue officers in Kupwara district said that they had selected a plot of 25 kanals at Ticker Kupwara just two kilometers from the main town on the Kupwara-Karnah road. They have forwarded the details to the deputy commissioner who has forwarded them to the divisional commissioner.

In Handwara town, revenue officers said that they had identified a plot of 18 kanals at Khirman village which belonged to migrated Pandits. Details of the plot have been forwarded to the divisional commissioner.

In Bandipora, the divisional commissioner has asked the DC Bandipora to identify site for construction of colonies for Pandits in the district.
