Srinagar, April 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Indian authorities have slapped draconian law Public Safety Act on three persons including two leaders of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, who were arrested by police recently in Islamabad and Shopian areas.
Protest strike was observed in Shopian against the invoking of Public Safety Act against the illegally detained 22-year-old Zubair Ahmad Turray and THKJK’s district president Shopian, Shakir Ahmad Mir. Another Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir district president Islamabad, Mir Hafizullah was also booked under the black law.
The family members of Zubair Ahmad Turray said this is for the sixth time that he has been detained. “He is being unnecessarily harassed by the Indian policemen,” they said.
A police officer while confirming arrest of Zubair Ahmad, Shakir Ahmad and Mir Hafizullah under PSA said that they have been shifted to Kathua Jail in Jammu region, on Tuesday.
Youth took to roads at Gagran and Gold market areas of the district and staged protest demonstrations. They were demanding release of the arrested youth. “Police are unnecessarily harassing youth of Shopian district. The youth are being booked under false charges,” they said.
