Islamabad, February 18, 2015 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre, (PASTIC), specialized organization for handling and dissemination of scientific information under Pakistan Science Foundation, PSF (Ministry of Science and Technology), is organizing a “Training Workshop on Research Tools and Techniques” from 18-20 February 2015 at PASTIC National Centre, Quaid-e-Azam University Campus, Islamabad.
The objective of this workshop is to build the capacity of young researchers and to enhance their professional skills in data analysis and bibliography management for the preparation of dissertation or research papers through SPSS and End Note.
Director General PASTIC, Prof Dr Muhammad Akram Shaikh welcomed the participants and introduced his organization. He said PASTIC is a gateway to wealth of Scientific and Technological (S and T) Information. It owns a privilege to be the pioneer in providing S and T information services to Pakistan’s research community since its inception more than 50 years ago.
Beside this PASTIC impart training on modern aspects of information handling and management by organizing workshops and trainings for researchers scientists and information professionals for preparing them to meet the challenges of this digital age and facilitating researchers in their work.
Therefore keeping in view the needs of research community, PASTIC has launched a new series of trainings for capacity building of young researchers. This particular workshop being a part of that series will surely develop deep understanding of the various ICT tools used in research for searching, annotation, manuscript preparation and data analysis for bringing out quality output.
Senior Librarian PASTIC, Syed Habib Akhter Jaffri while explaining the objectives of the workshop said that this training will provide participants with an overview of the capabilities of the scientific research tools like SPSS and End Note and hands-on training for some of the basic elements of data analysis and bibliography management.
He further added that research has some main components such as goal setting, data collection, data analysis and reference management. In this training all the important steps of research methodology will be covered starting from searching various resources including PASTIC. The e-skills learned will be useful across various research disciplines and research institutions.
About 28 Participants are attending the workshop including the faculty members, research scholars of M. Phil/ Ph. D. Speaking at the occasion Chief guest, Chairman PSF, Prof Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto hoped that this training will enhance the skills and knowledge of researcher on these scientific research tools and will motivate the researcher to pursue research. PASTIC has been organizing such workshops from time to time to train the researchers on state-of-the art softwares and technologies.
