New Orleans, U.S. (IINA) At least 28 people were injured, five seriously, when a vehicle plowed into a crowd watching a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans on Saturday evening, CNN reported quoting officials.
Police Chief Michael Harrison said the suspect, who was driving a pickup truck that hit two cars before running into the crowd, appeared to be highly intoxicated. Among the injured, the youngest is 3 and the oldest are in their 40s.
Harrison said the suspect is being investigated for driving while intoxicated (DWI).
The police chief was asked twice by the media if terrorism was suspected. While he didn’t say “No” he did say it looks like a case of DWI. “We suspect that that subject was highly intoxicated,” he said.
