Karachi, November 19, 2015 (PPI-OT): 27th Convocation of Pakistan Navy Engineering College (PNEC) was held today at Bahria Auditorium. Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan was the Chief Guest at the occasion. On arrival, the Chief Guest was received by Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah and Rector NUST, Engineer Muhammad Asghar.
288 graduates were awarded degrees at the convocation out of which 43 received Masters Degrees whereas 245 received degrees in the discipline of Bachelors of Engineering and Management Information Systems. To acknowledge the outstanding academic performance of students in their respective disciplines, 33 medals were also awarded to the position holders which included 14 President Gold Medals, 03 Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medals, 07 Rector Gold Medals and 09 Chancellors Silver Medals.
While addressing the ceremony President of Pakistan, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain congratulated the students and their parents on their success and said that award of degree is the first step towards lifelong learning roadmap that lies ahead of them. He further stated that stronger educational base in engineering and technology can play a vital role in country’s development, prosperity and economic growth.
He appreciated the role of Pakistan Navy and NUST in promoting education in the country. He also praised the participation of PNEC students in reflecting softer and progressive image of Pakistan at international level through Students Exchange Programme, Motor Sports and research and development. He added that the government is gradually increasing education budget to 4 % of GDP. He further said that considering the importance of education, the first 2 objectives of Vision 2025 are Primary and Higher Education.
Earlier in his welcome address, Commodore Dr. Nassar Ikram, Commandant PNEC apprised the audience that 35 scholars are undergoing their PhD at the college and 08 scholars have successfully completed their doctorate degree. He highlighted with honour that two graduates of this college are currently holding the position of Vice Chancellor in Engineering Universities of Pakistan. A large number of parents of graduating students and Naval officers attended the ceremony.
