Karachi, December 28, 2012 (PPI-OT): The 24th convocation of Pakistan Navy Engineering College, a constituent college of National University of Science and Technology (NUST), was held at Bahria Auditorium here today. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila graced the occasion as chief guest and awarded degrees to 202 graduates in various disciplines of engineering.
The recipients included 54 Pakistan Navy officers, 08 Saudi and 03 Yemini naval officers and 137 NUST civilian students who were awarded ‘Bachelor’s of Engineering’ (BE) degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.
Addressing the ceremony Chief of the Naval Staff said that the country is passing through very crucial juncture where application of genius minds and professional competence is mandatory for indigenization.
The Engineering graduates, being our future leaders and hope, have to take the country to new heights of progress and prosperity. This can only be achieved though relentless efforts and adopting emerging trends in the fields of science and technology, he added.
Admiral Asif Sandila urged the graduating officers and civilian students to always give priority to moral and ethical values and never compromise on principles. He said that it is only the people with conviction and strong principles who are remembered by the history. He also extended his felicitations to the graduates for achieving a milestone in the academic career particularly those who earned distinctions for their outstanding performances.
The Naval Chief highly appreciated the total commitment of PNEC to its cause and endeavouring to turn itself into a Centre of Excellence in the field of engineering. He said that dedicated research work at PNEC in the important areas like Renewable Energy, Thermal Power, Industrial Manufacturing, Secure Communication etc is a matter of pride and satisfaction.
Earlier in his welcome address, Commandant Pakistan Navy Engineering College Rear Admiral Imdad Jafri highlighted salient features of the degree programs at PNEC. He apprised the audience that presently the college is conducting BE, MS and PhD programs in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. Currently, 27 students are undergoing PhD program at the college. He informed that the college is also conducting BS(MIS) through hybrid distance learning which has recently earned the highest category of accreditation from National Computing Education Accreditation Council.
The ceremony was also attended by Rector NUST Lt General Muhammad Asghar, senior naval officers and parents and relatives of the passing out graduates.
