200 Official Buildings converted into Tourist Resorts, 800 identified across the Punjab: Punjab Tourism Minister Raja Yasir Sarfaraz

Karachi, October 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): Punjab Minister for Higher Education and Tourism Raja Yasir Sarfaraz has said that 200 official buildings with the participation of private sector would be converted into tourist resorts and for this purpose 800 official buildings including rest houses and residences have been identified in this purpose across the Punjab province.

He expressed these views while talking with the media men after the cutting ribbon of third day Tourism Expo held at Expo Centre here today. On this occasion, Tourism Minister, KPK Atif Khan, Gilgit Baltistan Tourism minister Fida Khan and CEOs of local and international Hotel chains, travelling companies and tourism organizations were also present.

Raja Yasir Sarfaraz said that natural tourist resorts in KPK and Gilgit Baltistan were available but tourist resorts would be developed in Punjab and for this purpose 8 districts of Punjab had been identified including Kotli Sattian, Chakwal, Khushaab, Jehlum, Dera Ghazi Khan, Nankana Sahib and Lahore where the tourists would be provided adventure tourism and activities based entertainment. He further said that those 8 districts had different types of tourism including religious, civilization and culture and only Chakwal district had 26 natural lakes where tourists could be attracted with the provision of fishing, swimming and water sports facilities.

He further said that none of the previous governments in the history of Pakistan had concentrated upon the tourism sector and Prime Minister Imran Khan in his maiden speech declared the promotion of tourism sector as one of his priorities in the country and a task force had also been formed in this connection.

Pakistan can be economically strengthen with the promotion of tourism in the country, he added. He informed that the tourism resorts had been setup at such a places where local tourists could be able to avail recreational activities at minimum cost for getting accommodation, transportation and edibles items and in this connection, investment by the public sector would be encouraged.

Later the provincial minister while answering the questions put by the participants in a “Meet The Ministers” program said that Murree, Nathia Gali and Kalam were the projects of English era which were now insufficient for the tourists regarding entertainment facilities and space and this thing had been creating a number of problems including law and order situation.

Earlier Raja Yasir Sarfaraz inspected different stalls of tourism expo and presented a book based on activities of Punjab Small Industries Corporation to KPK Tourism Minister Atif Khan and Gilgit Baltistan Tourism Minister Fida Khan.
