1st January, Solidarity Day – Peace Rally

Lahore: Aman Ittehad, organized public rallies in 140 locations across Pakistan to mark Solidarity Day (1st Jan,2012)Almost 1.5 Million people , from various walks of life attended these rallies, among these were( Journalists, students ,youth, lawyers, women, teachers, minorities and common citizens). They raised slogans on their rights.

In Lahore Aman Ittehad organized a solidarity Day rally, from Aiwan-e-Iqbal to Lahore Press Club, attended by hundreds of civil society activists and peace loving people. The rally was lead by Ms Asma Jahangir, former President of Supreme Court Bar Association , Ms Nigar Ahmad, Executive Director Aurat Foundation, Mr. Mohammad Tahseen, Executive Director South Asia Partnership-Pakistan, Mr. Irfan Mufti Provincial Convener Aman Ittehad, and Labour Leaders Ms. Rubina Jamil, Syda Ghulam Fatima and women’s rights Activist Ms. Bushra Khaliq and Ms Um-e-Laila, Asma Jahangir emphasized in her speech that Democracy, Democratic process and Institutions must be strengthened and must be run according to their given mandate and constitution, so this is very essential that Military should not intervene their functioning and must be keep away from civil matters and rule of Democracy. Nigar Ahmad expressed her deep concern over the critical situation and Political instability prevailing in Pakistan.

She said that to combat these problems and dilemma this is necessary to strengthened and sustain , the Democratic values for the safeguard of National Security issues. In this regard, she said that the only way to save people of Pakistan from the miseries and unlawfulness is to let the Democratic Institutions work mandatory. Irfan Mufti, in his speech said that Aman Ittehad demands Peace and security, civil rights, Democracy and a Welfare State.

He emphasized that the current socio economic and political situations of the country specially, plight and critical situation in Baluchistan need to be addressed politically to resolve the issues and for a sound and sustainable future for Balouch People, for this Military Operations must be stopped Mohammad Tahseen said that we cannot even dream for our development without Peace and Democracy.

He raised the importance of Local Government system to be in place, to resolve the problems of citizens of Pakistan. Rubina Jamil and Syeda Ghulam Fatima Expressed their deep concerns over the poorest condition of workers, as they are being deprived of even a piece of bread, they are being thrown under the poverty line deeper than before .
